Preservation Technologies has been working with libraries and archives around the world for over 15 years to preserve the artifactual content contained in their collections. We have treated millions of books and manuscript pages, extending their useful life. But library and archival collections are complex and rarely contain only paper. We know they contain an abundance of non-print materials including magnetic media formats, such as audio tapes, video cassettes, and other sound recordings that regardless of condition cannot be played because the institution no longer has the necessary machines making its audio visual collection technologically obsolete.

These preservation issues are not unique to academic and humanities organizations. Business and industry face the same issues. Whether it’s a small business or a large corporation, a television or radio station, or even a symphony orchestra, each has audio visual materials in a variety of formats that are in need of preservation to remain viable. They also require that the appropriate preservation measures be done safely in a secure environment at the highest quality possible and in a timely manner.

Building on our history of the preservation of paper in library and archival collections and responding to the requests of our clients we are now offering magnetic media preservation services that provide the safest handling procedures for the largest variety of tape formats commercially available; creating high quality archival masters and user playback files for research purposes. The professional personnel of The MediaPreserve has over 50 years experience with media production bringing a unique understanding of the requirements of magnetic media handling and reformatting in all types of audio and video formats.

Our equipment has been specifically modified and aligned to handle all fragile and vintage audio visual magnetic media. We have the capability to reformat (digitize) vintage analog and earlier digital audio video formats that require unique playback equipment. The audio video information extracted from these formats can be transferred and reformatted to any digital file format or physical media, (Firewire Hard Drive, DVD, LTO-3, Digital Betacam & etc.) requested by the customer. We can also provide downloadable or streaming preview files to allow for collection assessment.
